Got nominated for another state award!
This time for the state of Illinois. I've only been to Illinois once - to Chicago. Chi Town was awesome so I am all about Illinois and just wanted to say thanks a whole lot to students there! In awards shows on TV they always say "it's an honor just to be nominated" and I always feel like yeah, right when I hear that, but you know, it actually really is a major honor just to be nominated alongside books you admire. I'm always surprised by it. Anyway, heard about the award from a librarian who asked if I could send her something to give as a prize to students who read 4 or more of the nominated books. Digging that idea whole lot cuz I've never liked to read myself and have always needed some kind of motivation to do it. My motivation now is my writing - you simply have to read a lot if you want to be an author. Or at least if you want to be a decent one. But that's still my only motivation and I don't really read anything other than my own genre, teen fiction. But yeah, trying to think what on earth to send to students in Illinois as a prize. The librarian who wrote me suggested signed bookmarks, which would be cool if I could figure out a way to make some. I'm stranded in a little city in China teaching English till February 2015, so would have to figure out how to make prizes by hand with few resources and then ship them to America, which is surprisingly hard. Def gonna figure out something though... Speaking of awesome big cities, I gotta use my mention of Chicago to segue into talk of my own hometown, the incredibly beautiful city of San Francisco cuz I'm missing out on the World Series right now! Dang... China can be cool, but I sure do miss home a ton. But back to Illinois - if anyone has ideas for cool prizes I could make and send to Illinois, please let me know. Of course that would mean someone actually reading my rambling blog posts, which no one does. My website gets plenty of hits, but no one ever reads this blog, so yeah... not expecting any suggestions anytime soon, LOL! Still sending mad love to the state of Illinois. And of course to Cali too - GO GIANTS! -L.T.M. October 27th Shaoxing, China |
